CHARITIES / Mbongolo Fund
The Mbongolo Fund has been set up by Baker McVeigh International as a charity where donations are made from a small percentage of turnover from each Baker McVeigh practice. There are a number of international charities that we support which all share an affiliation with Baker McVeigh, ranging from The Karoo Donkey Sanctuary in SA to the British Riding For The Disabled. The charity is named after ‘Mbongolo’ a rescue donkey, nursed back to health under our care and is now part of the Baker McVeigh Summerveld family.
The story behind Mbongolo…
Mbongolo was brought to us in early 2018 by Ryan & Kay Eatwell, they had rescued him on the side of the road in Bulwer, which is in the Midlands in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He had lost an ear and was full of open wounds. Dr Andrea Sumaraj treated him, when he was well enough the Eatwells took him home and he spent some time in their garden with their dogs. They felt he was lonely and we offered to have him at the practice, he has become a part of the Baker McVeigh family. Six years down the line, Mbongolo is a much loved and pampered part of the practice, he spends his days out in the paddock with Swakopmund and they are inseparable, if Swakop is taken in for any reason, Mbongolo brays unhappily until he comes back. At the end of the day Mbongolo needs no instruction or lead, he merrily trots behind the other horses as they are taken to their boxes. He is such a character.
